The final iCIRRUS meeting was hosted by ADVA Optical Networking Ltd. at their offices in Munich. This time 20 project members took part, 18 in person and two via skype. We are very pleased that two members of the External Advisory Board (EAB, one by skype) were able to participate.
The first day was mostly dedicated to summarising the work done in the various work packages. With EAB members present it was thought important to reiterate what had been done in WP3 which finished at the end of month 30 and WPs 2 and 4 both finishing at the end of month 33 and also report on WPs 5 and 6 which are still ongoing. EAB members commented positively on progress made by the project.
Both EAB members and several iCIRRUS consortium members participate in standards bodies and this was an excellent opportunity to discuss the current situation. It appears that at present the individual standards bodies discuss 5G parameters in isolation and a more coherent approach is required to achieve the desired solutions.
The first end-to-end 5G fronthaul integration developed by the iCIRRUS consortium was demonstrated during the visit to the ADVA labs.

Discussions by the Technical Steering Committee focussed mainly on the final periodic report and final report as well as the remaining work to be done in WPs 5 and 6, and the timing of the integration tests which represent crucial outcomes of the project.
The day was rounded off with the project dinner at Augustiner Bräustuben, a typical Bavarian Brewhouse serving typical Bavarian beer and food.
The second day was almost entirely dedicated to WP5 as this is the last technical work package where the newly developed technologies and solutions are validated and tested under controlled conditions and ultimately on a pilot cellular network of a mobile operator and/or cloud operator.
The General Assembly was used to discuss and finalise plans for the integration demonstrations at TS during month 36 and for the final review meeting in March.
Our thanks go to EAB members Philippe Sehier and Thomas Pfeiffer for their contributions to the discussions and continued support of the project, to ADVA for hosting the meeting and project members for attending.
